When you think about a classic car show, your mind probably goes straight to
polished chrome, revving engines, and rows of vintage beauties. But at the
Southwest Airlines Classic Car Show, it was so much more than just horsepower
and hot rods — it was heart.
We were honored to be chosen as the nonprofit recipient for this year’s event — a
major moment for Spirit of a Hero. It all started when a longtime friend of ours, Alex,
stepped up during a meeting with Southwest leadership. They were looking for a
local, grassroots nonprofit where their support would truly make a difference — and
Alex pointed them straight to us.
One call later, and we were talking to Shaun Patrick at Southwest. He was moved by
our mission and the work we do for our Veterans, First Responders, and Frontline
Workers. Before we knew it, we were heading to the show.
The Experience
The event was held at the Southwest Airlines HQ near Love Field in Dallas — and let’s
just say, they go big. We’re talking over 100 classic cars, tons of vendors, live music,
and burgers and dogs grilling nonstop. It wasn’t open to the general public — it was
all for Southwest employees and their extended family, but the energy? Unmatched.
This wasn’t just a casual car hangout — it was competitive. Some were there to
defend titles, others to claim them for the first time. You could feel the pride and
passion in every detail of those cars.
And while the show was incredible, our real highlight was the people.
Community & Conversations
We had our tent set up — no small feat when two of our guys are double amputees.
But as always, they showed up and got it done. One woman even tried to send her
husband over to help, and we kindly waved her off. These Heroes are unstoppable.
Throughout the day, Veterans stopped by to talk with us — including several
Vietnam Vets. There’s a powerful sense of connection when you’re among people
who’ve served and sacrificed. We weren’t just sharing our mission — we were building
relationships.
The Surprise of a Lifetime
We were already grateful just to be included. But when Shaun Patrick handed us a
$78,000 donation, we were floored. We’d gone in hoping for maybe a few thousand
dollars. This gift — this impact — blew us away.

Why It Matters
Southwest Airlines didn’t just host a car show — they used their platform to support a
cause that hits close to home. With so many Veterans on their team, it was clear
their commitment was genuine. And for us, their donation means more families
supported, more Heroes seen, and more Spirit shared.
We can’t thank Southwest Airlines enough — not just for the check, but for seeing us,
choosing us, and standing with our mission.
Stay tuned. This is only the beginning.
