Along with heartfelt tributes to those who sacrificed in service, it was an unforgettable night of celebration and fundraising.

Guests enjoyed a wide array of exciting activities:

In the midst of the evening’s festivities, Tanya Mac, a true patriot and longtime friend of Spirit of a Hero, brought a special touch to this year’s event. Married to a Marine for over a decade, Tanya’s passion for our heroes has led her to create artistic workshops that foster pride and connection among veterans. Her artwork has become a staple at the Gala, and this year was no different. Tanya’s powerful piece for the Invisible theme resonated deeply with everyone present.

Her latest painting, which portrays Trump, bloodied but unyielding, is a symbol of the invisible strength and hope that drives individuals to persevere through life’s toughest battles. Tanya’s artwork reflects the same fight within the veterans and first responders Spirit of a Hero proudly supports. She hopes this piece will inspire others to tap into their inner resilience and continue to fight for what they believe in, much like the heroes celebrated that evening.

Among the night’s exciting auction items was an unforgettable 4-day dove hunting trip for up to 20 hunters at the breathtaking Estancia La Catalina in Cordoba, Argentina. Valued at $27,800, this package includes luxury lodge accommodations and gourmet meals. A special thank you goes out to Miles & Miles Argentina for their incredible donation.

Tanya Mac, a dedicated artist and mental health advocate, has been leaving her mark on the veteran community for over a decade. Through her platform, TMAC Arts, she combines her passion for creativity with her commitment to supporting veterans, military families, and first responders.

A Lifelong Artist with a Purpose 

Tanya’s journey as an artist began in her early years, but it wasn’t until the last ten years that she channeled her talent into a professional career. Her art is not just a form of self-expression; it’s a medium to connect with others, especially those facing the unique challenges of post-military life. Tanya’s work is known for its range, from dark, introspective pieces on mental health to vibrant pop art that brings light into the darkness.

Advocacy Through Art and Action 

With a background in connecting veterans to quality mental health services, Tanya understands the critical importance of mental well-being. She actively teaches various mental health training sessions, such as Mental Health First Aid and Talk Saves Lives, equipping individuals to recognize and respond to crises. Her advocacy extends beyond her teachings, as she encourages people to reconnect with their creative sides—a therapeutic outlet often lost in adulthood.

Patriotism Rooted in Personal Experience

Tanya’s patriotism is deeply personal. Having been married to a Marine for over a decade, she has long felt a strong connection to the military community. Although she didn’t serve in the military herself, Tanya believes in serving those who have, particularly through creative workshops designed to foster camaraderie and pride among veterans. Her efforts are aimed at alleviating the isolation many feel after transitioning out of military service.

A Longtime Friend of Spirit of a Hero

Tanya’s relationship with Spirit of a Hero (SOAH) dates back many years, possibly to one of the organization’s earliest motorcycle rides. It was at one of these events that she first met SOAH founders Rick and Tansy Turner, and since then, she has become an integral part of the SOAH family. Over the years, she has contributed her patriotic artwork to their events and auctions, forging a bond based on shared values and dedication to the veteran community.

The theme of this year’s SOAH Gala is “Invisible,” which resonates deeply with Tanya’s work. A Hero’s Journey

In August 2012, Lewisville Firefighter Andy Allison faced a harrowing ordeal while battling a fierce fire in a single-family home. During the firefighting operations, Andy was electrocuted by live electrical wires, resulting in severe injuries that have profoundly impacted his life. Despite the immediate medical attention and ongoing care from numerous specialists, Andy’s injuries have left him with lasting physical and cognitive challenges.

The Impact of Bravery

Andy’s injuries include a torn knee meniscus, severe burns, mobility issues, and significant damage to his optic and vestibular nerves. His left frontal lobe brain damage affects his memory and cognitive skills, and he has undergone multiple surgeries, including spinal fusion and dental reconstruction. These injuries ultimately forced Andy to retire from the career he loved.

Dedication Beyond the Call of Duty

Despite his personal struggles, Andy remains dedicated to his community. He educates and advocates for firefighter safety and tirelessly works to bring about much-needed reforms in the Texas Workers Compensation Program. Andy’s efforts are driven by a deep-seated commitment to ensuring that no firefighter has to endure what he has faced without adequate support.

It’s an invisible wound, often hidden from the outside world but deeply impactful on the lives of those who experience it. PTSD can result from experiencing or witnessing traumatic events and can lead to a range of symptoms, including flashbacks, anxiety, and severe emotional distress.

PTSD affects every aspect of a person’s life. It can make daily activities seem insurmountable and lead to difficulties in maintaining relationships and employment. Individuals with PTSD may relive their traumatic experiences through nightmares and flashbacks, feel emotionally numb or detached, and avoid situations that remind them of the trauma. Keynote Speaker: Jacob Schick.

We are honored to have USMC Cpl Jacob Schick as our keynote speaker. Cpl Schick is a third-generation Marine and the Chief Executive Officer for the One Tribe Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of the epidemic of the 22 warriors who die by suicide every day.

In September 2004, while serving in Al-Anbar, Iraq, a triple-stacked tank mine detonated below Cpl Schick’s vehicle, causing severe injuries. He suffered compound fractures in his left leg and left arm, multiple skin, ligament, and bone losses, varying burns, partial loss of his left hand and arm, amputation below the knee of his right leg, traumatic brain injury, and PTSD.

Cpl Schick is a staunch advocate for maximizing the potential in people from all walks of life. He shares his story and the effects of being severely wounded at public speaking engagements throughout the country. He has appeared on James Gandolfini’s HBO special “Alive Day Memories: Home from Iraq,” “60 Minute Sports,” and had acting roles in “American Sniper,” “The Mule,” and “A Star is Born.” The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is building him and his family a new smart home in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas.

On June 14, 1775, the Continental Congress took a historic step that would shape the future of our nation. On this day, they authorized the enlistment of expert riflemen to serve the United Colonies for one year, marking the birth of the United States Army.

A Legacy of Service and Sacrifice

+From its humble beginnings, the U.S. Army has grown into the most formidable military force in the world. The Army’s inception was driven by the urgent need to defend the colonies against British forces. Those early soldiers, drawn from various colonies, exemplified courage, resilience, and a fierce determination to secure their new nation’s freedom.

Over the past 249 years, the U.S. Army has played a pivotal role in many key moments of American history:

1. Revolutionary War: The Army’s first test, where it fought for and secured independence.
2. Civil War: Preserved the Union and ended slavery.
3. World Wars I and II: Played crucial roles in securing victory and shaping the global order.
4. Cold War and Beyond: Adapted to new threats and maintained peace and security through various conflicts.

Honoring Our Heroes

Today, we honor the men and women who have served in the U.S. Army, both past and present. Their dedication and sacrifices ensure our freedoms and safety. The values they uphold—loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage—are the bedrock of the Army’s strength.

The Birth of Spirit of a Hero

In April 2012, Spirit of a Hero Founder, Rick Turner, 82nd Airborne and Purple Heart Recipie-, read the story of a young 82nd Airborne Paratrooper who had lost all four limbs. This young man, SSGT Travis Mills, had lost his limbs but not his spirit! Determined to be the husband and father he always intended despite his injuries, SSGT Mills inspired Rick deeply. Rick knew he had to do something to help, so he organized a motorcycle ride that in one day raised over $30,000. From that day on, the spirit to help was sparked, and Spirit of a Hero was born!
